Portugal Group Sleepover Feb 2012

Most of the Explorers and Leaders heading off to ACANAC 2012 in Portugal in August enjoyed a team-building weekend together. Meeting up at 8th Beeston HQ on Saturday morning , the Explorers' first challenge was to seek out ingredients for some Portuguese taster dishes to be cooked later, while the Leaders bought more standard ingredients to feed hungry Explorers. After foraging for these through torrential rain, hail and sleet, that they had a quick lunch before setting off to Highfields.

The challenge at Highfields was to work in teams to use traditional techniques to map an area of the park. This was in preparation for some of the activities the Explorers will be doing when they go to ACANAC 2012.

Both teams managed to tie themselves (or at least their measuring string) in knots and spent almost as much time untangling string as they did actually mapping the features around them.

The reward after the mapping exercise was some time on the play park when Kirsty got very dizzy indeed!

After a cold walk back to 8th Beeston, the group decamped to 6th Beeston and set about cooking their Poruguese dishes of Salted Fishcakes, Fava Beans and Pasteis de Nata, Special Custard Tarts, which everyone agreed were very tasty!

There was a fruitless search for charcoal for a barbeque (apparently, there's not much call for it in February - we can't think why!), and a decision was taken to cook burgers and sausages in the kitchen instead.

Later still, all settled down to watch a couple of films and then bed for some (mainly the Leaders, none of whom snored very much) and some very quiet ball games for the rest!

A good time was had by all, but better yet, a group has definitely been formed ready for ACANAC 2012!
